Poor Arnold couldn't even count on his wife reading it and fibbing about how wonderful it was!

Rohan, definitely not a profound book. I took it in as light comedy intended for us to all laugh at ourselves. But the characters are so quirky I will likely remember them for some time.Stefaniehttp://somanybooksblog.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30395167.post-2106107949126889312012-11-18T15:49:22.932-06:002012-11-18T15:49:22.932-06:00You know, though I didn't find it a very profo...You know, though I didn't find it a very profound book, I agree that it is a memorable one -- maybe it's partly because she keeps people just above the level of caricature that there's something about their distinct oddities that will indeed stick with us.Rohan Maitzenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12111722115617352412noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30395167.post-26665678380636100352012-11-18T15:01:09.463-06:002012-11-18T15:01:09.463-06:00I enjoyed all the literary scenes and Arnold's...I enjoyed all the literary scenes and Arnold's really awful book that Denham couldn't take much sympathy in when the reviews were tepid or bad--all pretty funny. While there were things about Denham I found maddening, I could sort of understand her unease in group situations--of course mine arises more from not being a sparkling conversationalist rather than thinking conversation is just silly! :) I'm looking forward to reading more of Macaulay's work, too. Even though this is a fairly light read I think it is one that will stick with me.Daniellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06415242678720695754noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30395167.post-71513755641730370172012-11-17T17:20:10.520-06:002012-11-17T17:20:10.520-06:00Rohan, ha! The early London sections I thought were particularly sparkling.

Maybe I just enjoy chatting too much to be altogether sympathetic to a character who thinks most conversation is a waste of time! :-)Rohan Maitzenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12111722115617352412noreply@blogger.com
